A German Wedding in Baroque Sicily: Anna-Maria & Rocco at the Duomo di San Giorgio and Villa Fegotto
They travelled all the way from Germany to say yes in the heart of southeastern Sicily. For Anna-Maria and Rocco, getting married wasn't just about a ceremony — it was about a place, a light, and a feeling that only this corner of the island can give. Their day unfolded between two of the region's most beloved settings: the breathtaking Duomo di San Giorgio in Ragusa Ibla, and the timeless elegance of Villa Fegotto, surrounded by the quiet beauty of the Sicilian countryside.
This is their story, the way we lived it through the lens.
A Slow Sicilian Morning
The day began gently at Villa Fegotto, where the bridal party gathered for hair and make-up in the soft morning light. There's a particular rhythm to a destination wedding morning — laughter shared with sisters and mothers, the quiet anticipation building hour by hour. We arrived to begin telling the story of the day from its very first moments: the small details, the looks between friends, and the emotional dress reveal that Anna-Maria shared with the people closest to her.
By early afternoon, a beautiful detail was waiting in the courtyard — a classic white Volkswagen Beetle, ready to carry the bride toward Ragusa Ibla. Few entrances feel as romantic, or as cinematic, as a vintage car winding through the Sicilian landscape on a wedding day.
The Ceremony at the Duomo di San Giorgio
Few churches in Italy command attention like the Duomo di San Giorgio, one of Sicily's most iconic Baroque landmarks and a jewel of the UNESCO-recognised town of Ragusa Ibla. Climbing its grand staircase, framed by golden stone and Mediterranean sky, is a moment that stays with everyone present.
Rocco entered with his mother and waited at the altar. Then came Anna-Maria, accompanied by her father, who walked her to the foot of the church before handing her into the day she had dreamed of. The celebration was held mainly in English, with the couple's vows spoken in their own words — a warm, personal touch in a wedding that brought together guests from across Germany and beyond. Readings were shared by close friends and family, and the rings were carried in by the bride's grandparents, one of those small traditions that quietly anchors a wedding in love and heritage.
As the ceremony closed, the couple stepped out into the light to a joyful shower of flower petals on the cathedral steps — pure emotion, and one of our favourite frames of the entire film.
Golden Hour, Just the Two of Them
Before the celebration began, Anna-Maria and Rocco stole a short couple's session — fifteen unhurried minutes to simply be newlyweds. In Sicily, the late-afternoon light does half the work for you, wrapping everything in warm gold. These are the quiet, in-between moments that often become the emotional heart of a wedding film.
An Evening at Villa Fegotto
As guests arrived at Villa Fegotto, the celebration opened with an aperitivo among the olive trees, a live band playing softly in the background. The couple made their entrance to Do You Believe in Magic by The Lovin' Spoonful — and, fittingly, magic is exactly what the evening became.
Dinner was served in the villa's courtyard, beautifully styled under the open sky. Between courses came the moments that make a wedding feel like a film of its own:
The couple's heartfelt speeches.
A romantic first dance to Aerosmith's I Don't Want to Miss a Thing.
The cake cutting in the courtyard, set to The Beatles' All You Need Is Love.
An open dance floor, a DJ set, and dessert under the stars in the garden.
And then, when the last guest had gone, Anna-Maria and Rocco shared one final, private dance — no audience, no cameras crowding in, just the two of them closing the day exactly as it began: together. It's a choice we deeply respect, and one that speaks to who they are as a couple.
