Planning a Wedding in the Aeolian Islands: Key Considerations
Logistics need serious planning. The islands can only be reached by ferry or hydrofoil, from Milazzo or Messina. Work with a local wedding planner who can manage transport, guest accommodation and suppliers.
Book eighteen months ahead. The most sought-after venues, Capofaro and the private villas of Panarea above all, fill very quickly for high-season dates.
No cars on most islands. It is part of the magic, but it needs planning: everything moves on foot, by golf cart or by boat, and guests with limited mobility need thinking about. For the film, it means intimate, uninterrupted access to every location.
Consider a yacht ceremony. For a more intimate celebration, a wedding at sea with the islands as a backdrop — sailing from one to the next with the people you love — is one of the most extraordinary options there is.
Or stay on the main island. For a mainland celebration with easy access to the islands before or after the wedding, the coast around Milazzo is the most practical base, with hydrofoils to the islands all year and Catania airport about an hour and a half away; Palermo works too in summer, when seasonal hydrofoils run.
