Opened in 1873 right beside the ancient Greek Theatre, the Timeo has welcomed distinguished guests ever since, and its position is simply incomparable: the main terrace looks straight across to Etna, with the sea below and the medieval town rising above.
For weddings there are spaces inside and out — the Terrazza del Teatro for ceremonies with the theatre behind, the gardens for welcome drinks and aperitivo, the dining rooms for intimate receptions — and a kitchen led by one of Sicily’s finest chefs. The Timeo hosts a limited number of weddings each year; exclusivity is part of the offer, and the day feels entirely personal.
San Domenico Palace, A Four Seasons Hotel
A fourteenth-century Dominican convent turned into one of Sicily’s most extraordinary luxury hotels, and perhaps the most architecturally dramatic wedding venue on the island. Once the private villa of an English family and now an elegant Belmond hotel, it has a beach, private gardens and a dining terrace looking straight out over the bay — a venue where the Ionian is part of the celebration rather than a distant view.

The Ancient Theatre of Taormina

Planning Your Destination Wedding in Taormina: Key Tips
Book early, and be specific. The finest venues, the Timeo and San Domenico above all, have limited availability and fill 12 to 18 months ahead, sometimes more for high-season dates.
Understand the town’s logistics. The historic centre is pedestrianised and its narrow streets keep large vehicles away from most venues; guests usually arrive by cable car from Mazzarò or by taxi up the hill. A local planner who knows the town makes an enormous difference.
Build time in the old town into your day. Even if everything happens at a hotel, plan portraits along Corso Umberto, on Piazza IX Aprile with its terrace view and in the alleys behind the Duomo — footage that belongs only to Taormina.
Consider a morning-after session at the Greek Theatre. It is quietest early in the morning, before the visitors arrive, and at 7 am on a clear day, with Etna catching the first sun, the light is extraordinary — one of the most valuable hours we can spend with a couple here.
