Villa Criscione stands in the countryside between Ragusa and the sea, in the heart of the Iblean landscape of dry-stone walls, carob trees and old farmhouses. It is one of the best-known wedding venues in the province, and one we know from behind the camera.
We have filmed two very different weddings here: Giuseppe and Eleonora's outdoor civil ceremony, with a same-day edit screened for the guests that evening, and a steampunk wedding on Halloween night that was later featured in Sposi Magazine. Between them they show how much this place can change with the light, the season and the couple's imagination.
This guide brings together what you need to know before you visit: the spaces, the ceremony, guest numbers, where your guests can stay and how the villa looks on film.

The Place
Villa Criscione is a historic country estate whose old working buildings, the storehouses, granaries and stables, have been restored and turned into reception halls. White stone arches, fountains and wide courtyards remain from the original estate, and the interiors combine that architecture with a classic, elegant setting: arches, pillars and chandeliers.
Outside, large gardens with fountains and lanterns host the banquet in the warm months. It is a venue that works both ways: a dinner under the sky from late spring to early autumn, and a full celebration indoors when the season or the concept calls for it.
Its position is part of the appeal. Ragusa Ibla, one of the Baroque towns of the Val di Noto, is a short drive away, and the coast is only a few kilometres further. Many couples use both: portraits in Ibla's lanes or by the sea, the celebration in the countryside.
The Ceremony
According to its listing, Villa Criscione has spaces for civil ceremonies and can host the ceremony on site. That is how Giuseppe and Eleonora married: an outdoor civil ceremony, closed by a burst of coloured smoke and confetti. A civil ceremony in Italy is celebrated by an official of the comune, so the date and time are agreed with the town hall as well as the venue.
If you prefer a Catholic wedding, Ragusa offers some of the most beautiful churches in Sicily, from the Duomo di San Giorgio in Ibla to the smaller churches of the old town, and the villa is an easy drive for the reception. A symbolic ceremony in the gardens is also possible, with no legal requirements at all. Our guide to getting married in Sicily explains each option.
Practical Details Worth Knowing
These details come from the venue's public listing and can change, so confirm them directly with the villa when you visit:
- Guest numbers: from about 80 to 400 guests, with a guaranteed minimum of 80 adults.
- Catering: in-house only, with a customisable menu and options for vegetarian, vegan and coeliac guests.
- One wedding per day: the venue is yours for the day, and the party can run into the night.
- Accommodation: there are no guest rooms, only a bridal suite, so plan where your guests will stay.
- Access: private parking and step-free access.
Since guests sleep elsewhere, most couples choose between Ragusa Ibla, for its boutique hotels and Baroque streets, and the coast, for a seaside holiday around the wedding. Arrange transfers for the evening: country roads are dark, and nobody should be driving after the party.
How Villa Criscione Looks on Film
From our side of the camera, this is a venue of contrasts. By day the white stone, the gardens and the open countryside give clean, luminous images; at golden hour the light comes low across the fields and turns the stone warm. After dark everything changes: lanterns, candles and lit arches make the courtyards feel intimate and almost theatrical.
That second face is what made the steampunk Halloween wedding possible. The old stone buildings took the costumes, the industrial details and the dramatic lighting as if they had been built for them, and the film feels closer to a short film than a highlight reel. Giuseppe and Eleonora's film shows the opposite: daylight, an open-air ceremony and a same-day edit, cut during the wedding and screened for the guests the same evening.
A few suggestions if you are planning here:
- schedule the ceremony so the portraits fall in the last hour before sunset, when the countryside is at its best;
- ask the venue how the gardens and arches are lit in the evening, because that light will be in your film;
- if your day starts in Ragusa Ibla, allow time for the drive and for a few portraits in the old town on the way.
