The Setting — Santa Maria del Focallo, Sicily
Santa Maria del Focallo is a quiet, unspoiled stretch of coastline near Ispica in southeastern Sicily — just a few minutes from Pozzallo, in the heart of the Val di Noto. A long sandy beach, the Ionian Sea and a sky that turns extraordinary shades of gold and rose as the sun drops toward the horizon.
It is not one of Sicily's famous destinations. It does not need to be. For Angelo and Maya, it was simply the right place — intimate, beautiful and entirely their own.
The Proposal
Maya arrived blindfolded.
She had no idea what was waiting for her — the beach covered in hundreds of red roses, arranged in a path that led toward the sea. The scent of the flowers. The sound of the waves. And at the end of it all, Angelo, waiting with their son Raffaele beside him.
When the blindfold came off, she saw everything at once — the roses, the sea, the horizon beginning to glow with the first colours of sunset, and the man she loves holding a ring with a deep red ruby at its centre.
Angelo proposed with tears in his eyes. That detail alone says everything.
Raffaele — their little boy, present for the most important question his father would ever ask — witnessed it all. A moment that belonged not just to two people, but to a family.
When Maya said yes, the sky answered. Fireworks erupted over the Sicilian sea, the champagne was poured and the last light of the day turned everything gold.
