What Exactly Is Super 8?
Super 8 is a motion picture film format introduced in 1965, in the golden age of Italian cinema. For decades it was how ordinary families made their home movies: small cartridges of real film, loaded into compact cameras, later projected onto a white wall in a darkened living room while everyone gathered to watch.
If you have ever seen one of those old family films (the warm, slightly faded colours, the gentle flicker, the grain that seems to breathe), you already know why this format never really died. It simply waited for us to miss it.
Today Super 8 film is still manufactured, still developed in specialist laboratories, and still capable of something no digital sensor has achieved: making a moment look the way it feels in memory.
Why Digital Perfection Created a Desire for Film
We live in an era of technically flawless images. Every phone corrects colour automatically. Every camera stabilises, sharpens and optimises. Artificial intelligence can now generate sunsets that never happened and skies more dramatic than the ones we actually stood under.
And precisely because perfection has become effortless, it has also become slightly meaningless.
What couples increasingly ask us for is the opposite: proof that a human being stood there, chose that exact moment and committed it to a physical medium that cannot be undone, regenerated or faked. Film grain is not a flaw to be corrected. It is evidence that the light was real, the laughter was real, and someone was paying attention.

We may be biased, having spent our working lives filming weddings in the Sicilian south-east, but we genuinely believe no landscape in Italy rewards analog film the way this island does.
The honey-coloured Baroque stone of Scicli, Modica and Noto seems made to catch low golden light, and Super 8 renders it with a softness digital sharpness can only approximate. The sea off Marzamemi and Punta Secca turns a shade of blue on celluloid that looks borrowed from a 1960s postcard. Even the dust in the air during a late-August ceremony becomes part of the image, an atmosphere you can almost touch.
And there is the cultural layer. Sicily is the island of Il Gattopardo and Cinema Paradiso, of a cinematic tradition built on warmth, nostalgia and the passing of time. Super 8 speaks a different language. It works the way memory works, in fragments: a three-second shot of your grandmother laughing, confetti suspended in mid-air, the two of you running down a Baroque staircase, slightly out of focus, entirely in love. Woven into your main film, or delivered as a short reel of its own, these fragments give the story a second texture, more intimate and more timeless.
The digital film shows them what happened; the Super 8 shows them how it felt.

The Craft Behind Every Reel
Part of what makes Super 8 special is that it refuses to be rushed.
Each cartridge holds roughly two and a half minutes of footage. There is no monitor to review, no card to reformat. Shooting film means choosing, deliberately and almost meditatively, which moments of your day deserve to exist on celluloid. It is filmmaking as it was practised for a century: with intention.
After the wedding, the exposed cartridges travel to a specialist laboratory where the film is chemically developed and then scanned frame by frame at high resolution. Only then does it reach our editing suite, where those analog fragments are woven into your story.
The process takes time. It involves chemistry, craftsmanship and a small amount of beautiful uncertainty. That is not a limitation of the service; it is the service. Like everything genuinely handmade in Sicily, from Modica chocolate to a tailored suit, the value is inseparable from the patience.

We think of Super 8 the way we think about the difference between a printed photograph and a file on a phone.
Twenty years from now, your wedding film will still be beautiful. Real film. We shoot on an authentic Super 8 camera with genuine celluloid cartridges, developed in a professional laboratory. The grain, the colours and the flicker come from chemistry and light, not from software.
How is the Super 8 footage delivered?
The developed film is scanned at high resolution and woven into your wedding film, and with Super 8 Story it is also delivered as a standalone analog reel, so you can watch it anywhere.
Does Super 8 cover the whole day?
